Despite the relatively cold conditions it’s full of life and buzzing hummingbirds. A curious hummingbird will check out the lens front element in lowland Amazon rainforest, and it will sit next to you with first light at 4100 m, a metre from crystallised mud formations and pools frozen solid to the bottom, in high winds. You think of the warm layers on your large body and food you’ve got to fight the cold. A sip of nectar from somewhere instead? Makes you shake your head.
